Job Objective

  • To ensure that the Data Centers are up and running 24/7 with constant monitoring and prompt escalation of issues to eliminate the need for unplanned downtime with regards to services accesses from these locations.
  • Responsible for building a high degree structured discipline approach around change control, change management, problem management and technology infrastructure that can support the growing portfolio of products and services, Upgrades documentation periodically for proper operating procedures for all systems.

Team Member, Data Centre Environment & IT Power Management Responsibilities

Data Centre Operations Management:
  • Ensure hardware upgrades, maintenance, and all environmental changes (such as uninterrupted power source upgrades) with the appropriate vendor as required.
  • Maintaining filing and record-keeping systems: Keeping records of inflow of our internal customers and vendors’ operations at the production Data centres and Disaster Recovery Centre.
  • Onboarding and Decommissioning of Equipment in the Data Centre: Keeping adequate records of I.T. equipment/accessories taking in and out of the data centre, and follow up with the DR centre.
  • Keeping vendors’ files and proper record keeping of all expenses at the production Data centres and Disaster Recovery Centre.
  • Labelling of Storage racks and Systems/Servers and other IT equipment for easy identification.
  • Ensure cleanliness and properly organized data centre, UPS and battery rooms.
  • IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation.
Monitor IT Power Infrastructure: Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS); Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR):
  • Routine monitoring of the functionality of the equipment
  • Send Hourly report of the status of the equipment for easy management decision making
  • Work with a vendor during scheduled Quarterly preventive maintenance and monthly inspection of the equipment by the Vendor managing them
  • Daily routine monitoring of the batteries of the UPSs
  • Daily routine monitoring of the Low Voltage panels
  • Monitoring of Power Change over between generator and public utility.
  • Daily routine monitoring of Static Transfer switches (Hi-Switches)
  • Daily routine monitoring of Power Precession Control units (PPC)
  • Monitoring of Power Change over between generator and public utility.
  • Always monitoring electrical installations at the centre to keep power consumption efficient and affordable.
  • Routine monitoring AVR voltmeters.
Managing Cooling Systems, and Maintaining cooling or keeping the data centre room temperature cool to a perfect room temperature as well as controlling humidity by monitoring the Cooling systems within the Data Centre, UPS rooms and Battery rooms:
  • Daily Routine monitoring of the cooling units at the Data Centre, different UPS rooms and battery sheds making use of the Environmental monitoring systems (AKCP); Battery monitoring systems(BMS),
  • Routine analysis of alerts sent from the equipment’s and come up with weekly, monthly trend analysis.
  • Follow up on scheduled quarterly maintenance of cooling systems
  • Escalate faulty cooling units after troubleshooting to vendors or corporate services repairs and follow up on the appropriate department or vendor.
Data Centre Security and Environment Systems Management
Access Control management:
  • Enrolling staff on the access control equipment to the Data Centre, UPS rooms and battery sheds
  • Monitor the quarterly maintenance of the equipment
  • Routine backup of the access log
  • Monthly backup of the access logs to an external drive for safekeeping.
  • Control unauthorised access into the Data Centre, UPS and battery rooms.
Surveillance / Security systems (CCTV):
  • Routine view of the CCTV cameras on the display TV
  • Monitor quarterly maintenance of the equipment by the vendor managing them
  • Follow up on the backup and storage team for the routine backup of CCTV footage/images.
Environmental monitoring systems (EMS); Battery monitoring systems(BMS):
  • Routine analysis of alerts sent from the equipment’s for decision making
  • Monitor the quarterly maintenance of the equipment
Fire Suppression systems (FM 200):
  • Routine inspection of the FM 200-cylinder gauge
  • Follow up with the vendor managing the FM 200 system for routine quarterly maintenance.
  • Routine inspection of the FM 200 panel.
Process Administration:
  • Assemble monthly Data Centre operation reports in respect of IT equipment inventory, incidence/issues within IT Data Centre infrastructure.
  • Maintain filing systems both electronic and hard copy for vendors, device/component issues.
  • Make sure Data Centre electronic and hard copy access logs are well kept and signed off by visitors’/vendors staff accessing the Data Centre.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Team Lead Data Centre Environment & IT Power Management

Requirements

  • The candidate should also know about Service level management (SLMO L6), Availability management (AVMT L6), Change management (CHMG L5), Data Analysis (DTAN L4), Data Management (DATM L4), etc. with a minimum of B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science / Engineering, Systems Engineering or Operational Sciences with a strong information systems component.
  • Our ideal candidate must have experience in Data Centre Operations Management, monitor IT power Infrastructure, daily routine monitoring of the cooling units at the Data Centre, different UPS rooms and battery sheds making use of the Environmental monitoring systems (AKCP); Battery monitoring systems(BMS) etc.
