The Nigeria Institute of Journalism is calling on the interested and eligible candidates to apply for the NIJ Admission on the offered programmes listed below.

National Diploma (Mass Communication)

The NIJ ND programme is available for part-time and full-time of which is required six semesters (3 academic Sessions) for a Part-Time program and four semesters (2 academic sessions) duration for a Full-Time program after which candidates are awarded National Diploma certification in Mass Communication.

After each semester candidates are sent on 4-6 weeks Internship with Media organizations to ensure they acquire practical experience before graduating from the institution and also upon the completion of the ND programme candidates must embark on a one-year industrial attachment/internship.

Requirements

Applicant must have gotten five credit passes in the SSCE WAEC/NECO/GCE or equivalent in five subjects of which English Language and Mathematics must be included gotten in not more than two sittings.

Candidates must sit for JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Higher National Diploma

The National Institute of Journalism HND programme runs for part-time and full-time mass communication students after which HND Certification is awarded to them. The Full-Time programme runs for four semesters (2 academic sessions) while the Part-Time programme requires six semesters (3 academic sessions).

After each semester candidates are sent on 4-6 weeks Internship with Media organizations to ensure they acquire practical experience before graduating from the institution.

Requirements

Applicant must have SSCE WAEC/NECO/GCE certification or equivalent with five credit passes in five subjects of which English Language and Mathematics must be included and must have been acquired not more than two sittings.

Applicant must possess a National Diploma certification in Mass Communication with at least Lower Credit from a recognized and NBTE-accredited institution.

Candidate must present evidence or proof of a one-year mandatory Industrial Attachment.

Admission is done directly by the Institution.

Post Graduate Diploma

The NIJ PGD programme is offered full time and part-time whereby the full-time program requires two semesters (one academic session) while the part-time program requires three semesters.

The PGD programme is divided into three mass communication specialized areas namely:

  1. Print Journalism
  2. Broadcast Journalism
  3. Public Relations and Advertising

Every student aside from their professional courses must take these core courses:

  • Foundation of Mass Communication
  • Theory of Mass Communication
  • Mass Media Law and Ethics
  • Mass Communication Research Methods
  • Communication for Development
  • Media Management
  • Topical Issues in Mass Communication

Upon completion of this PGD programme students are sent on a 6-week Internship.

Requirements

Applicant must possess a First Degree or Higher National Diploma Certification from a recognized institution.

Special Programme

The Nigeria Institute of Journalism offers specialized short-term courses for professional practitioners and intending practitioners in specialized areas of Mass Communication, Journalism and related areas.

Programmes such as Photojournalism, News Writing, and Reporting, Editing, Radio & Television Production amongst others exist.
